How to connect to the internet with my laptop?
I got a new Gateway Laptop for my birthday…but im having some issues getting online. I disconnected the phone jack from my modem and plugged it into my laptop, but it only has limited connectivity, and that doesn’t bother me but i can’t seem to repair the connection since I want to see if it works. Another thing is, I don’t know what my wireless connection(Modem Name) is called, and much less the Network Key which they ask for whenever i click on any one of the wireless connections. Can some1 help me, how can i find out my Wireless Connection name and the Network Key, should i call my cable company or Gateway customer service?
You should turn the power off to the modem and laptop. then connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the laptop then turn on the modem, then turn on the laptop, in that order. Your question is confusing, you say your using a “phone jack” and “modem” but you state “wireless connection”. Are you using a modem/wireless router combination like from verizon, or are you connecting a wireless router to a modem. Your best bet is to call the cable company (ISP) for help, they have experience in setting up many different types of computers on their networks and can ask the questions needed to get you online.
