In September 2008, around 9,000 computers within the Swiss Educational system will have abandoned Windows in favor of Linux. It is happening in Geneva, and has been put in motion by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Some advantages that were noted.

The Swedish National Police are implementing a plan to build their entire future IT systems infrastructure on open source software. It will be based upon Linux, Mysql, and JBoss. Reasons for making the switch.
